Jackson McPherson Takes on the National DH Series: A Weekend of Speed and Skill
Mackay Cycles / Scott brand ambassador Jackson McPherson continues to push his limits on the national stage, competing in Round 3 of the 2025 AusCycling Mountain Bike National Series Downhill (DH). Racing among Australia’s best, Jackson took on one of the most demanding tracks yet, showcasing his growing talent and determination in the sport.
“Feels unreal to be at the level to be able to race the national series,” Jackson shared, reflecting on the experience. The competition was fierce, with riders battling not only each other but also the technical challenges of the course.
Conquering the Course
One of the standout features of the track was the main rock garden—an unforgiving section that tested riders' skill, confidence, and decision-making in real time. Jackson highlighted the difficulty of finding the best and safest line while maintaining the speed needed to stay competitive. This section of the course proved to be a defining moment in the race, separating those who could flow smoothly from those who struggled with the rugged terrain.
Lessons from the National Stage
Competing at this level is about more than just speed—it’s about endurance, adaptability, and strategy. “What I’ve learned by competing in the national series is getting my fitness up to be able to race these long, challenging courses, and learning the different types of dirt each track has,” Jackson said. Understanding how different track surfaces react under pressure is crucial for a downhill racer, and Jackson is quickly gaining valuable experience with each event.
What’s Next?
There’s no rest for Jackson as he gears up for the next big challenge. In just a couple of weeks, he’ll be heading to Orange for Round 4 of the National Series, another opportunity to refine his skills and push his performance. Following that, he’ll take on Crankworx Cairns, one of the most exciting mountain bike festivals in the country. There, he’ll compete in both the Downhill and Dual Slalom events, showcasing his versatility as a rider.
Mackay Cycles and Scott are proud to support Jackson as he continues his journey in the national and international downhill scene. His dedication and progression are an inspiration, and we can’t wait to see what he achieves in the coming races!
